Branch's story is an inspiration to anyone who has ever faced adversity. It shows that anything is possible if you have the determination to succeed.
Early Life and Education
Michael Branch was born in 1948 in a small town in Texas. He was born with cerebral palsy, which is a condition that affects muscle movement and coordination. Cerebral palsy can cause a variety of symptoms, including difficulty walking, talking, and writing. Branch's cerebral palsy affected his legs and arms, making it difficult for him to move around and use his hands.
Despite his disability, Branch was a determined child. He attended regular school and participated in many of the same activities as his classmates. He played Little League baseball, sang in the choir, and was a member of the debate team. Branch's parents and teachers encouraged him to never give up on his dreams, and he took their words to heart.
After graduating from high school, Branch attended college at the University of Texas at Arlington. He majored in journalism and was a member of the school's newspaper staff. Branch graduated from college in 1970 and began his career as a reporter.
Career
Branch worked as a reporter for several newspapers and magazines, including the Dallas Morning News and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. He also wrote several books, including With Clipped Wings, which was published in 1982. With Clipped Wings tells the story of Branch's life with cerebral palsy. The book was a critical and commercial success, and it helped to raise awareness of cerebral palsy and other disabilities.
In addition to his writing, Branch has also been active in the disability rights movement. He has spoken out against discrimination against people with disabilities and has worked to improve the lives of people with disabilities.
Awards and Honors
Branch has received numerous awards and honors for his work as an author and speaker. In 1983, he was awarded the National Rehabilitation Association's Media Award. In 1984, he was awarded the President's Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities' National Media Award. In 1990, he was awarded the Texas Governor's Committee on People with Disabilities' Outstanding Achievement Award.
Branch is a role model for people with disabilities and for anyone who has ever faced adversity. He shows that anything is possible if you have the determination to succeed.
