The Ship

The RMS Titanic was built by the White Star Line and was the largest passenger liner in the world at the time of its launch. The ship was 882 feet long and 108 feet wide, and it had a gross tonnage of 46,328 tons. The Titanic was equipped with the latest safety features, including watertight compartments and lifeboats.

The Voyage

The Titanic set sail from Southampton, England, on April 10, 1912. The ship was bound for New York City, and it had over 2,200 passengers and crew on board. The voyage proceeded without incident until the night of April 14, when the Titanic struck an iceberg.

The Collision

The Titanic struck the iceberg at 11:40 p.m. on April 14, 1912. The iceberg tore a 300-foot gash in the ship's hull, and water began to flood into the watertight compartments. The Titanic's design was such that if only a few of the compartments were flooded, the ship would remain afloat. However, in this case, too many compartments were flooded, and the ship began to sink.

The Sinking

The Titanic sank in less than three hours. As the ship sank, passengers and crew were forced to abandon ship. Many people died in the freezing water, and others died in the lifeboats. Of the over 2,200 people on board the Titanic, only 705 survived.

The Aftermath

The sinking of the Titanic was a tragedy that shocked the world. The disaster led to a number of changes in maritime safety regulations, including the requirement that all passenger ships carry enough lifeboats for everyone on board. The sinking of the Titanic also led to the development of the International Ice Patrol, which monitors icebergs in the North Atlantic Ocean.

The sinking of the RMS Titanic is a tragic reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of safety. The disaster has been the subject of numerous books, films, and documentaries, and it continues to fascinate people today.
