Tourism, Sexuality, and AIDS in the Dominican Republic: Worlds of Desire
Tourism is one of the most important industries in the Dominican Republic, accounting for over 15% of the country's GDP. However, the tourism industry has also had a significant impact on the country's sexual culture and the spread of HIV/AIDS.

In Tourism, Sexuality, and AIDS in the Dominican Republic: Worlds of Desire, I explore the complex relationship between tourism, sexuality, and HIV/AIDS in the Dominican Republic. Drawing on ethnographic research conducted over a period of 10 years, I examine how the tourism industry has shaped sexual behavior and the spread of HIV/AIDS in the country.
I argue that the tourism industry has created a "world of desire" in the Dominican Republic, in which sexual encounters between tourists and locals are both encouraged and commodified. This world of desire has had a profound impact on the country's sexual culture, leading to an increase in casual sex, unprotected sex, and the spread of HIV/AIDS.
I also examine the role of the Dominican government in the spread of HIV/AIDS. I argue that the government's focus on tourism development has led to a neglect of public health programs, including HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment programs. This neglect has contributed to the high rates of HIV/AIDS in the country.
Tourism, Sexuality, and AIDS in the Dominican Republic: Worlds of Desire is a timely and important book that sheds light on the complex relationship between tourism, sexuality, and HIV/AIDS in the Dominican Republic. The book is essential reading for anyone interested in the tourism industry, the spread of HIV/AIDS, or the Dominican Republic.
